Positive Deviance 3/15/16
Being sick the last few days has left me cooped up in bed and gained me a 5 hour long stay in the ER. This left little room for me to think of deviance however when I look back There was many chances for positive deviance. The story of Julio Diaz is a rare yet inspiring one. To go out of social norms and commit an act of positive deviance can be tough, The thoughts don't generally cross ones mind. However Diaz did just that he remained calm and decided to make the most of a negative situation.
In the last few days an old friend I don't really keep in touch with came into school with tears in her eyes and a distressed look on her face. At first I thought nothing of the situation, however when I was home later that day I decided to reach out. I did not do this knowing I would have to commit an act of positive deviance I did it because I knew encouragement is always a good thing to have. This person was so grateful that I sent a message to her, her exact response was "Thank you so much Delaney, I really needed that". To make someone who is going through a tough time feel even a little better made me feel a lot better. This was my little act of positive deviance, although minimal it was still beneficial and created positive feelings in a situation where there otherwise would have been none.
I hope you're okay!
ReplyDeleteI think that it is so cool how something as small as a text message can completely turn someone's day around. And like you said, not only does it improve their mood, but yours as well.
