Queen Gaga
Its not as late as usual but its late enought to where millions of thoughts areflowing through my mind keeping me from getting the recommended 8 hours of sleep.I saw a photo today (the one shown with this post duh.) that made me think (wow what a concept del). It made me think about our sociey and how we accept and treat people with different gender identitys and sexualities. The photo shows NFL fans before and after gaga (a queen in pop culture) sings the national anthem. The photo is clearly meant to evoke humor and I must admit I did chuckle a bit however, the next second I was thinking of sociology class and our lesson on sexuality/gender.
I have personally never discriminated someone based upon their sexuailty however many people do. But seeing this photo and knowing it was made to make people laugh is better than knowing it was made to discriminate others. I grew up in a home where the only person allowed to judge anyone is God and Ishould love everyone no matter their skin color, sexuality, or even their looks. But in society its hard to do, everyone is constantly needing to be a certain way to be liked or noticed. Wow drifting from the topic.
Getting back on track, I think what my teacher said is true, that our generations 'movement' is the one for rights and respect of people who identify as anything other than heterosexual. That is powerful to me, to know that our movement is one of acceptance and love. Lady GaGa being as vocal about sexuality as she is, is an amazing thing considering her popularity and to have her sing at such a large event shows how much farther we have come as a whole. So maybe the NFL fans will never look quite like the second photo but its sure great to know those people are still in the crowd.
Love is patient love is kind. This is a great post! AND GaGa is queen! but not like Beyonce
